DICE stage 3 forcing

We have now created some new forcing files for both the LSMs and the SCMs for stage 3, based on the model results submitted in stage 1.

DICE stage 3a forcing for the LSMs

There are (again!) two sets of forcing data - one set at the screen level for temperature and humidity and 10 m for wind, the other at 20 m for all variables. The screen/10m datasets is the same as one of the forcing levels used in stage 1a but the diagnosis of these variables is problematic in SCM forced by the observed surface fluxes (as was the case in stage 1b) and several SCM did not submit this data as a result. The 20 m forcing dataset interpolates between grid levels (or in some cases extrapolates below the lowest model level) for which simple linear interpolation has been used for simplicity. The resulting two forcing datasets are plotted here for screen/10m level and 20m level. The screen level forcing certainly gives more variability in moisture than is seen for the 20 m forcing and so remains an interesting test.

The screen/10m level forcing files for the LSMs are (note that the file numbering has changed from those in the email at the end of July!):

DICE stage 3b forcing for the SCMs

Here the surface heat and moisture fluxes and surface stresses (where available, otherwise the observed ustar is reused) are simply extracted from the LSM data submitted for stage 1a. The list of forcing files is:

We have also updated the model output webpages with a suggested filename convention for stage 3. Please have another look at the LSM and SCM requirements.
